Why did you start FreeHeadset.org?

In December 2003, my wife and I witnessed a fatal car accident in San Diego, California. A driver was talking on his cell phone and ran through a red light and struck another vehicle passing through the intersection. Both drivers were injured; a passenger in the victim's vehicle was killed. After helping at the scene and testifying in court, we knew something had to be done. An event was so horrible yet so common..

At that time I had been involved in the cell phone industry for many years, but only then did I realize the horrible implications of simplifying neglecting to use a handsfree device. Every time I had purchased a new cell phone, I, like so many others, had declined to buy the $30 optional handsfree headset. Somthing had to be done to change that..

After a relentless campaign of hundreds of phone calls and emails, we had our program up and running. We began shipping our first orders in January 2004, and now (275,000+ orders later) we're still going strong!

Where can I find the name of the manufacturer on my cell phone?

The name of the of your phone's manufacturer is usually written on the exterior of the phone. In some cases you may need to remove the battery and look for a white sticker inside the battery compartment. This white sticker contains information about your phone and usually displays the name or logo of the manufacturer.

How can I find the model number on my phone?

To locate the model number of your phone, simply remove the battery and read the information on the sticker that is attached to your phone.

What does OEM mean?

OEM means "Original Equipment Manufacturer".. If a headset is "OEM" it means that it was manufactured by a company that also builds cell phones, such as Motorola, Blackberry, Samsung, etc.

Nextel (or Sprint Nextel) phones

Most Nextel phones are manufactured by Motorola.

T-Mobile Sidekick or Hiptop

If you have a T-Mobile Sidekick or Hiptop, the manufacturer is Danger

SprintPCS Touchpoint

If you have a Sprint PCS TouchPoint, your phone is most likely made by LG.
